Urban Rustic Home Look
Creating the Urban Rustic Look
Urban rustic takes it's inspiration from converted industrial buildings, exposed bricks are the perfect backdrop, which takes coppers, brushed steel, black iron, raw reclaimed woods, concrete and faux leathers to give a rugid utilitarian look.
Detailing is often distressed, dented or functional like bolts and pipes or can have a very retro feel, like vintage style exposed light bulbs. The key home accessories to create this look are large metal or wood wall clocks.
Exposed bulb lighting or black iron and copper home accessories are creating the perfect urban feel. Sometimes an almost steam punk victorian look is created using subway tiles and black steel finish, popular for loft style apartments and batchelor pads. This look can be softened with sheepskins and faux furs or tamed down to create a more industrial meets farmhouse look by adding small details and touches of black.
The urban rustic look evokes the natural textures and colours of industrial buildings and wood built shacks and barns historically used for commercial purposes by using neutral shades, rustic woods, coppers and black metal finishes.
The urban industrial home decor has large open spaces with brick walls and exposed pipe work found in loft style living and barn conversions at it's essence but the look can be created in a modern home too. This look also works well with retro and vintage styling, bringing a historical feel into modern day living and style.
Industrial Greys and Rustic Neutral Tones
The colour palette of urban rustic is formed of grey shades, deep creams and neutral tones should be used to allow the natural materials colours to come through. Pick one or two colours for your walls, ensure your flooring is tonal to the scheme.
The copper, black, grey and metal accessories along with raw woods will give this scheme the lift it needs without colour.
Industrial Rustic Home Accessories
Urban industrial home decor is all about the accessories, lighting and lamps which are key to creating this rustic look, as well as the use of retro filament light bulbs strung shadeless on funky copper ceiling fixtures and unusual lamps with a rustic industrial feel.
